Powell River Supportive Housing

PREP is excited to announce 40 new studio homes with support services and 24-hour staff on-site, opening soon at 4910 Joyce Avenue. This new housing is funded through the Rapid Response to Homelessness Program, a BC Housing initiative to create new housing units with support services for vulnerable individuals who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.

PREP in partnership with Lifecycle housing, two longstanding local non-profits, will be running the program on behalf of BC Housing. PREP is taking the lead on day to day operations including all support staff, and LifeCycle is taking the lead on building and grounds maintenance. Both PREP and LifeCycle collaborate on overseeing the project with support from many community partners, including the Powell River Regional Hospital District, Vancouver Coastal Health, and the City of Powell River.

These new homes are for Powell River residents only, who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness and need supports to maintain housing. All tenants in supportive housing have made a choice to work towards living a healthy, stable life. A local Coordinated Access and Assessment Table, led by BC Housing and PREP in partnership with local service providers, makes informed and objective recommendations of tenancy, striving for outcomes that:

  • Identify appropriate applicants for tenancies into supportive housing, prioritizing those who have been identified as most in need/most vulnerable
  • Result in the most appropriate and efficient use of community resources
  • Reduce homelessness in qathet Regional District
